This solution targets the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, covering seven critical process stages: pharmaceutical water production, sterilization of medicinal products, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, drying, fine additives, cleanrooms, and CIP/SIP cleaning. **Pharmaceutical Water Production** Producing pharmaceutical water is a critical step; without it, most active ingredients cannot be manufactured, as water quality is the foundation of all high-quality products. Regardless of specific process requirements, JUMO products ensure high-purity water. In the filtration stage, pre-filtration is required before reverse osmosis (RO) to prevent membrane clogging. The JUMO delta p20Pro differential pressure transmitter (Model 403522) precisely measures filter remaining service life based on pressure drop, maximizing filter utilization. In the RO stage, widely used for high-purity water production, the process balances liquid concentrations via osmotic pressure across a semi-permeable membrane. JUMO offers various hygienic sensors and transmitters; conductivity transmitters provide temperature compensation compliant with ASTM D1125-9 and meet USP water conductivity limits of 645. For WFI (Water for Injection) production, the European Pharmacopoeia mandates distilled water, while in the US, distilled water is primarily reserved for this purpose due to its high purity and lack of microbial contaminants. In the distillation process, pre-treated water (e.g., ion-exchanged) is heated by prepared steam and pushed into an evaporator under pressure. Temperature measurement and control are vital parameters, as vapor pressure curves determine boiling points. JUMO provides temperature sensors specifically designed for high-purity systems, made of 316L stainless steel with a surface roughness no greater than 0.8 microns. These sensors offer rapid response and can be fitted with hygienic process connections (clamp or welded sheath). Pressure monitoring during distillation is equally important; reducing pressure lowers the boiling point, allowing the process to run at lower temperatures, preserving liquids and saving energy. The JUMO p20Pro is ideal for this application, featuring a stainless steel measuring element that ensures high accuracy, safety, and reliability. In the storage stage, the European Pharmacopoeia requires hot storage for WFI at a minimum temperature of 70°C. The JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 records production processes securely with anti-tamper protection. This paperless recorder supports real-time data visualization, multiple limit monitoring programs, and remote alarms upon failure, while simultaneously recording up to 3 completely independent process streams. **Sterilization of Medicinal Products** Disinfection is a critical pharmaceutical process. Whether using steam or gas sterilization, temperature, pressure, and time are key parameters requiring fast response and precise measurement instruments. Data from these measurements should be archived and stored to prevent tampering by connecting to the JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 paperless recorder. The JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 complies with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 certification, making it suitable for documentation management in all pharmaceutical processes. The fundamental principle of disinfection is achieving sterility. Temperature, pressure, and time are interdependent parameters. JUMO provides fast-response sensors and reliable measurement technology applicable to any hermetic sterilization method. The insertion-type RTD for steam sterilization is Model 902830. **Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing** Fermentation is the core process in biopharmaceuticals, where microorganisms or enzymes produce chemical or biochemical products. Precise monitoring of temperature, pressure, and pH is essential; JUMO's measurement systems have been validated in the industry for years. Biopharmaceuticals are sensitive to high temperatures and shear forces, as well as pH, pressure, and contamination. To selectively monitor all conditions, JUMO offers specialized control and measuring elements ensuring reproducible production of active substances. The quality of active substances produced depends on process conditions. JUMO provides the LOGOSCREEN series paperless recorders for reliable documentation, capturing all measurement data. The JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 high-expansion paperless recorder is designed according to FDA standards for measurement data recording, making it ideal for monitoring and logging. **Separation and Homogenization** In separation processes, maintaining stable monitoring pressure is crucial. Whether managing pressure fluctuations or flow rate variations, constant pressure must be maintained. The high-precision pressure transmitter JUMO DELOS S02 features contact switches, analog output, and an LCD display showing process pressure and switch status. Its high-grade stainless steel construction and seamless front-flush measuring system make it ideal for hygienic-sensitive areas. Precise control and monitoring of homogenization pressure ensure consistent results. During separation, cells are broken to release intracellular fluids. The JUMO DICON touch controller manages homogenization pressure, working in tandem with the JUMO dTRANS p30 pressure transmitter to provide reliable, safe, and precise process control. **Cleaning** Before further processing, active substances must be cleaned (e.g., removing residual cell debris). Appropriate cleaning agents are selected and processed through separators. To optimize and ensure repeatability of process conditions, JUMO provides pressure and temperature sensors to guarantee stable process quality. **Collection** Cleaned active substances are collected in tanks for further processing. Using JUMO p20Pro, liquid hydrostatic pressure is monitored to maximize tank capacity utilization. **Drying** Various drying methods exist in the pharmaceutical industry, with freeze-drying (a gentle method) and spray drying being common. JUMO humidity, temperature, and pressure sensors meet process needs to ensure final product quality. Freeze-drying involves slowly freezing the product and drying it under vacuum. After freezing, pressure must be controlled below the sublimation point. Slight heating at constant pressure causes moisture to sublime; the released vapor freezes in the condenser. JUMO provides the necessary temperature and pressure sensors. Combined with the JUMO DICON touch multi-channel controller, this enables optimized control of the freeze-drying process. The JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 paperless recorder precisely logs measurement data, enhancing process stability and safety. In spray drying and fluidized bed drying, wet surfaces absorb heat from dry air for evaporation, cooling the air and increasing humidity. JUMO provides appropriate sensors and recorders to monitor temperature, pressure, and humidity to ensure stable, high-quality products. Sensors with ATEX intrinsic safety certification are available for potentially explosive environments, such as the JUMO Wtrans Ex humidity and temperature sensor (Model 700755). **Fine Additives** Granulation, pelletizing, and coating involve refining active agents. JUMO provides suitable measurement systems to control and monitor temperature and pressure, ensuring safe production. In granulation, liquid binders mix with powders to form agglomerates, which are then dried. To ensure reliable monitoring throughout the process, JUMO provides the JUMO p20Pro pressure transmitter to enhance the pressure surge resistance of the control system. Reliable pressure and temperature measurements are essential for optimizing process reliability, particularly in integrated solutions. In coating processes, precise pressure and temperature control is required to ensure uniformity when using suspension coating. JUMO's measurement systems offer solutions for both low and high-pressure measurements. The JUMO DICON touch multi-channel process controller meets these needs, with a configurable screen displaying individual process settings onsite. Recording functions ensure process reproducibility for high-quality products. **Cleanrooms** Cleanrooms minimize suspended particles entering or remaining in the room. Depending on the application, total particle counts or microbial counts must be monitored; pharmaceutical production requires monitoring both. Parameters may vary based on the specific products manufactured. JUMO provides solutions to maintain and monitor stable pressure, temperature, and humidity. Pressure monitoring is critical; the JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 paperless recorder facilitates this, enabling rapid identification of issues via a central network server upon failure. Maintaining regenerative climate conditions is vital to protect sensitive products from external influences. The JUMO LOGOSCREEN 700 is suited for this task, capable of recording, displaying, and storing measured variables. Glove boxes or isolators are sealed containers isolated from the surrounding environment. By controlling locked pressure, they adapt products to internal conditions (via purging or filling with oxygen-free gas mixtures). JUMO provides the dTRANS p32 (Model 402051) to monitor gaseous dry media. Its core component is a high-load resistive strain gauge measuring element, ensuring process reliability and safety. **CIP/SIP Cleaning** Hygiene and cleanliness are the foundations of good processes. Online Clean-in-Place (CIP) or Sterilize-in-Place (SIP) achieves this. JUMO provides corresponding systems and solutions. Modern facilities utilize CIP technology to save time and costs. The JUMO tecLine CR-4P four-electrode conductivity electrode ensures precise measurement throughout the process for rapid and reliable cleaning. It features a wide measurement range from 1 µS/cm to 600 mS/cm. The JUMO AQUIS touch S is a multi-measurement module instrument offering a new approach to CIP cleaning, capable of measuring, controlling, recording, and displaying acid/base concentrate settings as well as levels and flow rates in all tanks. All operations are managed by a single instrument, handling up to 4 analog sensor signals and up to 10 measurement units, saving resources and reducing maintenance costs. **Service & Support** JUMO offers four categories of support: Manufacturing Services, Documentation & Training, Product Services, and Maintenance & Calibration. * **Manufacturing Services:** Tailored for clients needing competitive, efficient supply of systems or components, whether small or large batches of electronic modules or sensors.
